Pokemon Altered Emerald

Pokemon Altered Emerald
Name: Pokemon Altered Emerald
Remake From: Pokemon Emerald
Remake by: Luuma

Description:

Pokemon Altered Emerald: a complete overhaul to Hoenn and its Pokémon!

Features:
New hacks often try to look as modern as possible and include shedloads of fresh new pokémon. This one does its best to feel like gen 3!

-All routes have been remodeled, and 5 new ones have been added including a canyon, a spooky house, and a mine.
-the first 386 pokémon are available
-Fly to routes, reuse both tms and move tutors, delete most hms, use the updated repels and fishing systems, get all the secret base items, enjoy few storyline rewrites too
-Dizzy Egg’s emerald battle engine: all moves, types, items, capture xp, and abilities up to gen 6 are in game, though some are unavailable. Some of the balance changes in later gens have been reverted because I wanted leech life and Bullet Seed in early. A lot of new items are absent although the interesting ones do show their faces. The only fairy types in the entire game are the clefairy line.
-all pokémon have been changed in some way, all evolution lines have fresh ass new level up sets,
-There are more moves and abilities than I can really fit in to one place, so most pokémon are cool as hell.
-we’re talking

What happens when you take (almost) every move and ability from gen 1 to 7, add some new ones to the mix, and then cram them into just 386 Pokémon?
You get a level of meta diversity the main games could only dream of! Over half the abilities are signature abilities, and moves are no different! You can catch all your favourites here, but they might not be quite how you remember them…

On top of that, I’ve rebalanced and re-teamed the trainers and gym leaders, then freshened up every route in Hoenn and added five new ones. And I love the puzzles: they’re optional, fair, and absolutely devilish.

If you’re reading this and you aren’t on this site: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=386229 go there

On with the show!
Starring:
Dizzy Egg’s/Chacha Dinosaur’s emerald battle engine: most moves, many items, and all types, phys/spec split, abilities, capture xp, and all abilities (especially the cool ones) up to generation 7 are in the game
The palette has been made more vibrant All routes have been remodeled, some islands have been added in the sea, victory road is completely new and exciting, and 5 new (fully optional) routes have been added: a canyon, a haunted house, an extension to route 119’s river, a snowy mountain, and a mine.
So many quality of life changes!
Fly to routes,
Reuse tms and move tutors as much as you want,
Run indoors,
Access Pokémarts downstairs in all Pokémon Centres
Delete all HMs
Use the updated repel system,
Access all the secret base items,
A few storyline rewrites (the Magma Base is now an enjoyable little sneaking mission where you have to avoid getting seen. )
An ability switcher in Mauville
An egg hatcher in verdanturf
An IV perfecter in the Battle Frontier (with the option to give you 0 base speed of course)
And even more QOL improvements!
HM use in overworld takes fewer button presses, same goes for Berry planting
Poison doesn’t hurt in overworld
Daycare man now steps directly in the way of the bike path on route 117 to alert when an egg is hatched
Game corner times are cheaper, and buying the currency is more expensive (Overall cost of items is the same in pokedollars, but playing the slots is relatively more rewarding now. This change was made specifically to encourage minors to gamble.)
Ashblower items are half price, huff-puff
Battle frontier items cost eight times less (Now 32BP for a lapras doll down from 256bp)
Stat screen displays natures’ +/- stats (see screenshots)
Both bikes obtainable in overworld
Fossil resurrector now resurrects every fossil you’re holding all in one go
Sitrus berries can be farmed for $$$ efficiently, having a reasonable resale price
Name rater lets you change your avatar’s name
New dex entries to keep it fun
The Hoenn dex mode has been fully reordered to roughly match the order in which mons can be obtained.
New typings!
Banette is ghost/normal,
Parasect is ghost/grass,
Masquerain is water/bug,
Torkoal is fire/steel,
Celebi is grass/fairy,
Nosepass is rock/elec
New Learnsets for every Pokémon! Listed in a doc in the folder the patch comes in
New abilities for every Pokémon! Listed in a doc in the folder the patch comes in
417 pokémon are available, all of which have been tinkered, polished, dusted off and enhanced. All of them are really cool to use, and I’ve tried them all. Highlights include:
Disguise Sudowoodo complete with a form change
Shields Down Golem complete with a form change
Ghost/Grass horror tank Parasect with 140 sDef, spore and nightmare
Spinda with Dancer and every “Dance” move in the game
Grass/Fight Grovyle and Sceptile with Defiant, Forest Curse, Mat Block, Low Sweep, and Sacred Sword
Corsola lowers Sp.Def but sharply raises Def when hit by Physical moves, and lowers Def but sharply raises Sp.Def when hit by Special moves. Or gets regenerator
Levitate Electrode as the only thing that learns Electro Ball
Porygon/Porygon2 that changes from one to the other every level
Ariados with a learnset based round toxic thread (now badly poisons and halves speed), baneful bunker, venom drench, and venoshock and access to electroweb and psychic fangs
Beedrill with Merciless and 40 (x2) base power Twineedle with 40% chance to poison each hit.
Innards Out Poliwag line (and drizzle for politoed of course)
Victory Star Starmie with Laser Focus and Prismatic Laser
Soul-Heart Luvdisc with huge defensive power
Pixilate/intimidate Snubbull (available on route 101)
Reckless Tauros with Head Charge
Tentacool line with Tangling Hair or water bubble
Moody Sunkern with seed bomb by lv19, gets Weather Ball, Synthesis and Solarbeam, and evolves into Drought Sunflora.
Hoppip line without offensive moves til it’s Jumpluff but with stunning support ones all along, and also symbiosis then Prankster (or Fluffy)
Queenly Majesty Nidoqueen and King’s Shield Nidoking, or if you don’t like that you can have them with Poison Touch
not to mention Flame Body now offering Typhlosion a 30% chance for its own contact moves to cause burns.
Schooling Exeggcute lmao
Feraligatr with bite moves causing critical hits every time
Pidgeotto has Delta Stream or No Guard
Girafarig turns every battle it’s involved in into an Inverse battle.
Lunatone sets Gravity on switching in,
And more. Loads more!
New difficulty curve! All wild encounters are at roughly the level your team should be at, so switching Pokémon in and out is really easy and rewarding. XP yields are slightly lower early on to compensate for this, which means Nuzlockes are hopefully relatively more challenging than usual.
New Trainer fights for many trainers (and all the important characters) especially later in the game. Expect to get danced over by Tate & Liza, sharked by Archie, rused by Sidney, and completely rinsed by Wallace, whose battle takes place in semi-permanent rain

NEW MOVES

Armor Break, fight, 35/-/10, user attacks itself. Has a 100% chance to raise all stats once. learned by Golem, Magcargo, Corsola, Rhyhorn, etc.
Sandblaster, 110/70/10 special move with x2 power in sand. (Claydol, Sandslash, Steelix, Castform, and Lunatone. Good with gravitate, and a sand team)
Fade, ghost, raises Evasion and Speed one stage. (Gastly, Misdreavus)
Blink Strike, flying, 30 power but calculates off the user’s speed stat. (Ninjask, Voltorb, and Scyther)
Disarm, flying, 60/100/10, always lowers the target’s Attack. TM
Overload, elec, 25 power, hits all targets thrice (for proccing Lightningrod/Motor Drive etc.)
Jolt, electric priority move. (Electrike, Jolteon, etc.)
Frost Nova, ice, 70 power priority move that hits all foes, same effect as False Swipe (nonfatal, but neat in a hailstorm). (Dewgong, Walrein)
War Drum, dark deals 5 damage to the USER 2-5 times. Activates abilities. Learned by Ledian (procs rattled), Camerupt (procs Stamina), Arcanine (procs Justified) and Omastar (procs Weak Armor)
Broil, fire, a priority move that maximises the target’s defense and burns. Learned by magby, Flareon and torchic
Metallurgy, steel, 75 power special move, deals damage and grants the target Steel typing. TM
Shield Slam, 70 power but calculates off user’s defense stat instead of its attack stat. (Forretress, Clamperl, Blastoise and Aggron)
Coal Toss, Rock, special, 60 power, burns anything it hits. (Golem, Torkoal, Camerupt)

Horn Crash, normal, 80 power, raises defense. (Nidoking, Seaking, Rhydon, Pinsir, and Aggron)
New signature moves

Snow In is like a special, ice type version of Earthquake, but with the added effect that it maximises the special defence of everyone hit. Learned by Snorunt.
Meltdown, 130 power, 5pp, water type special move that removes the user’s Ice typing. Learned by Walrein.

Foresight/Miracle Eye/Odor Sleuth now make all moves hit through ALL type immunities rather than just their respective ones.

Snatch now steals all non-attacking moves instead
Magic Coat now steals all special attacking moves instead (Spoink signature)
Cross Poison now 100 power, 90 acc
a few more, but if you notice them, I’m not doing my job correctly

Also some changes to signature moves.
Sketch now has 5 pp rather than 1
Hyper Fang now deals half the target’s MAX hp (minus 1) as damage. (Super Fang deals half the target’s CURRENT hp)
Toxic Thread lowers speed 2 stages and applies Toxic
Steel Wing now has 100% chance to raise defense, no longer a TM (Skarmory)

A comprehensive list of all Pokémon’s Learnset and Ability changes comes packaged up with the rom, along with the .ini (for pge, if you want to make your own tweaks), and some patches for optional features. There’s also ones to remove the type chart change, allow revives to be used in battle again, and restore Poison’s overworld effect.

————————-

This rom is complete, and has a good amount of postgame from emerald, but I still occasionally update it with new features. This used to happen pretty regularly, but now I’m slowing it down a lot. I’m also stopping posting playthrough help in the thread, cause man it’s too much of a task! Will respond to bug reports tho.

Most questions you will have are answered in the huge amount of info below:
Handy Info: Pokémon locations, Mystery Ticket Locations, and relevant evolution changes:

Secret Pokémon and Mystery Tickets

Island Tickets in Mt. Pyre (Ho-oh/lugia) (walk past the gravestones in order), Birch’s Lab (Deoxys) (check the bookshelves), Granite Cave (mew) (Tricky cycling, but doable), and rt 119 (lati@s)(use cut on the grass. You need both bikes). A guy in slateport makes these key items work. He’s in the Harbour.
You get suicune off steven in mossdeep for beating the champion, rather than beldum, which is in the wild.
moltres, zapdos and articuno are gifts for beating the HOENN dex (the one with only the 200 basic forms or starter evolutions)
mew breeds with ditto, making mewtwo
Celebi is in petalburg woods in a little grove, lv15. Try going out and coming back in again
!ERROR in VICTORY ROAD: Warp outside of map.

Puzzle Walkthroughs and hints (Pa’i canyon, victory road, and the Second Bike. (with images soon)

Northmost item, route 119.

You will need a pokemon with Hyper Cutter and Cut. Try trapinch

The second bike

located on route 129, on an island to the east. I’m sure you can find it, even though the itemfinder’s not picking it up! Follow the flowers.

Pa’i canyon
Left boulder puzzle:

when you push a boulder down the slope, you keep bumping into it and it goes all the way to the bottom. However, when you push one boulder into another, it doesn’t move!
All you have to do is move the lower boulder up until it’s 2 steps below the way to the item, then push the upper boulder all the way down until it hits the lower boulder. Then dismount your bike and grab the item.

Right boulder puzzle

When you ride up the mach bike slope, you can take one step left, then fall back to the bottom. The rest should be self explanatory. (Do it again).

Hidden cave in the south

You can reach this from under the bridge on its left.

Walking through trees

If you look closely, the trees you can walk through look slightly offset from the rest. Use this to spot paths to items

Cave warp maze

Just re-enter every cave as you exit it. Eventually you’ll wind up coming out of the far rightmost cave. Talk to the boulder on your left. A door will open. Go through it.

Braille

If you could access the third braille sign, it would say “of”. What might “Triangle” be referring to?

Victory road
3 magnemite

One of these magnemite can move up 2, down 2, left 2 or right 2. That means it can only reach one of the bridge opening crystals. The other two can move three spaces in one of their directions. Use this to move them to the other crystals, a bit like how you did with the last puzzle.

Ice puzzles
North-west puzzle

Use surf

Strength puzzle

For both of these, you need to move the boulder that you can reach into a spot with a circle on it. You can probably figure the rest out from there.

Hidden Item strength puzzle

You’ll need a boulder, and a good sense of whereabouts the itemfinder is pointing you. Plan your route!

Ice puzzle floor 2.

This requires pictures to explain. It is possible, though! Just like the previous floor, you need to move these boulders to specific locations, but I’ll leave it to you to work out where they are. Good luck.

RECOMMENDED POKEMON LIST

Girafarig, Banette, Sunkern, Grumpig, Murkrow, Smeargle, Eeveelutions, Porygon, Huge Power Farfetch’d, Ralts, Cacnea, Roselia, Ariados, Geodude, Baltoy, Spinda, Shedinja of course, Prankster/Contrary shuckle, sceptile, furret, misdreavus, gligar, Gale Wings taillow, Lunatone, ledian, Sneasel, Piloswine, jumpluff, Innards Out Poliwag line, the fossils, and honestly, whatever you want, am I right?

FAQ/walkthrough

Where’s Cut?

House to the left of the pokemon center in Rustboro

Where do I go after Flannery?

Petalburg Gym, but you may as well do some exploring beforehand. I recommend the desert, fiery path, and route 115!

What’s this Devon scope and where do I get it??

It’s given to you on a bridge on route 120.

What’s going on with this item ball in a tricky puzzle location!?

Check “Secret Stuff”

Why isn’t Grovyle a dragon!?

hile it’d make them “better” in the sense they’ll be stronger, it is also weird as hell.
